Hard-hitting South African middle-order batsman, David Miller, registered his name in the record books yesterday after scoring the fastest T20I hundred against Bangladesh at Potchefstroom.
In a bid to register their maiden win on the tour, Bangladeshi captain, Shakib Al Hasan, won the toss and chose to field. Shakib, who opened the bowling for Bangladesh, was successful to some extent during the inception as he dismissed Mangaliso Mosehle (5) and JP Duminy (4) in the third and fifth over respectively.
AB de Villiers (20) was the next South African wicket to fall in the 10th over. The dismissals did not affect Hashim Amla as he went on to score his eighth T20I half-century. What came in a big loss for Bangladesh was when Mushfiqur Rahim failed to grab a tough chance that could have dismissed Miller on 0.
It was at this point when Amla and Miller started to play the big shots. Miller did not waste any time in getting in, pressing the accelerator from the word go.
After Amla (85) got out in the 17th over, the onus had fallen on Miller. He completed his half-century in the following over, off 23 balls. Horror struck Bangladesh when Miller his five consecutive sixes in the 19th over off Mohammad Saifuddin. He completed his maiden T20I hundred on the third last balls of the innings, off 35 balls.
