South Africa batter David Miller has set his sights on a long-awaited World Cup triumph as he enters the final phase of his international career. The 37-year-old remains determined to earn a place in the Proteas squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup and hopes to finish his career with a major ICC trophy.
Miller has established himself as one of South Africa’s most dependable white-ball batters. He has played 178 ODIs, scoring 4,000-plus runs at an average of 42.30 and a strike rate of 103.68. He also has valuable World Cup experience, including a memorable century against Australia in the 2023 semi-final at Eden Gardens.
Speaking to JioStar, David Miller admitted that lifting the World Cup remains one of his biggest ambitions. He also acknowledged that earning a place in the squad cannot be taken for granted. “For me, it’s a goal that I want to achieve. I would love to finish off late in my career with a trophy,” David Miller said.

The 2027 ODI World Cup will carry additional significance for Miller as the tournament will be hosted in South Africa, alongside Zimbabwe and Namibia. Playing a World Cup on home soil would give the experienced batter an opportunity to perform in front of South African supporters at some of the venues where he has spent much of his career.

Miller stressed that his immediate focus is on maintaining his form, contributing consistently and putting himself in contention for selection. He understands that competition for places will be intense, particularly with South Africa continuing to develop its next generation of white-ball talent.
“It’s something that is never guaranteed, and I’ll definitely, from now until then, be focused on aiming to make that team and to contribute the best I can,” he added.

The left-hander also brings recent franchise cricket experience into the equation. During The Hundred 2026, Miller represented Southern Brave and scored 166 runs in eight matches. Although the team failed to reach the knockout stages, his contributions underlined his continued value as a middle-order batter.
With the 2027 World Cup still ahead, Miller has time to strengthen his case for selection. If he can maintain his fitness and consistency, the veteran batter could yet have one more opportunity to chase the ICC trophy that has eluded him throughout his international career.
