David Warner And Steve Smith Likely To Fly Back To Australia

The second wave of COVID-19 has become very dangerous and it has already taken several lives in India. While the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been taking place in India, many players have decided to pull out too amid this crunch time. And now, two other Australian players David Warner and Steve Smith are likely to return home before Australia shut its border for India.

However, owing to the COVID-19 surge in India, the Australian government to ban Indian flights due to the situation of Coronavirus pandemic in India. While more than 3 lakh new cases have been reporting on a daily basis, death rates are also increasing in the country. So far, Australian duo Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson, who were part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021, have already returned back to Australia giving personal reasons.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals player Andrew Tye has also left IPL 2021 midway and returned back to Australia fearing being locked out of his own country as well. Meanwhile, ANI quoted 9News as saying that Australia cricketers David Warner and Steve Smith are hoping to return home. David Warner is the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad while Steve Smith is part of the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021. Both the players have also played a few matches for their respective franchises in IPL 2021 so far.

“Australian cricketers including David Warner and Steve Smith are now hoping to be flown home from India before borders shut. Around 30 Australian players, coaches and commentators are ‘keen to get out of India due to the deteriorating situation right across the country,” the news report claimed.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders head mentor David Hussey had also said that few Australians are nervous about whether they could manage to fly back to their home country. Last year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the IPL 2020 took place in the UAE. And, many countries have also banned the arrival of international flights. Currently, there are more than 26 lakh positive cases of Covid-19 in India and the numbers are increasing every day as well.
