The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 has been quite unfortunate for David Warner, and it was more evident on Sunday in the ongoing clash of Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Dubai, he was sitting at the stands. David Warner took to social media to share a selfie from the stands in Dubai along with his teammate Virat Singh and members of the franchise on Sunday as Sunrisers were playing for pride.

Notably, Warner did not travel to the stadium for SRH’s last couple of matches and remain in the hotel rooms in the UAE. On Sunday, he made his first appearance in SRH colors after getting dropped after their match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on September 25. Notably, David Warner was seen wearing the Sunrisers Hyderabad jersey on Sunday. The Australian opener, who led SRH to the title in 2016, was removed as captain earlier this year.

David Warner has played just a couple of matches in the UAE leg of the season, managing scores of 0 and 2. With Warner watching from the stands, Sunrisers came up with another inept batting performance on Sunday. They were restricted to 115 for 8 in 20 overs. Kane Williamson top-scored with 26 and Abdul Samad hit a quickfire 25 but 6 of their 11 batters got single-digit scores as KKR bowlers choked the run flow, not allowing momentum to the strugglers at any point in the innings.

Earlier in the week, former England captain Kevin Pietersen said it’s disappointing to see how SRH has handled the Warner situation. In his blog for Betway Insider, Pietersen wrote: “David Warner just is Sunrisers Hyderabad, so it’s disheartening to see his love affair with the franchise unraveling like this. He has scored so many runs for them over the years, captained them to the title, and has been at the heart and soul of everything that they do.”

David Warner is the fifth-highest scorer in the history of the IPL with a tally of 5449 runs from 150 games with 4 centuries and 50 half-centuries. He has amassed more than 500 runs 7 seasons in a row from 2014 to 2020 but has been struggling this year having scored just 195 runs from 8 games at 24.3.
