Former Australian opener David Warner has brushed aside suggestions that England’s aggressive “Bazball” approach could tilt the Ashes 2025–26 in their favor, backing the hosts to once again dominate the historic rivalry. Confident as ever, Warner predicted that Australia will win the Ashes 3-1 or 4-0, even if captain Pat Cummins misses the opening Test in Perth.

Speaking at Kayo Sports and Fox Sports’ Summer of Cricket launch in Parramatta, David Warner was asked which team’s approach—England’s high-risk, attacking brand of cricket or Australia’s disciplined, aggressive balance—would come out on top. With his trademark wit, Warner replied, “The Australian way, because we’re playing for the Ashes and they’re playing for a moral victory. There’s your headline.”
When pressed for a scoreline,David Warner confidently said, “I’ll just stick with 4-nil. There’s usually a washout somewhere, probably Sydney. If Cummins doesn’t play, England might sneak one. But if Cummo’s there, it’s 4-nil, no doubt.”

Warner, who has often been at the heart of on-field battles, also advised his teammates not to “poke the bear” that is Ben Stokes. Having shared a dressing room with Stokes in franchise cricket, David Warner praised the England skipper’s evolution as both a player and leader. “He’s a serious cricketer and a fantastic leader. If we can avoid getting him fired up, it’ll help us enormously,” Warner said, though he did admit he’d love to see some good-natured banter between the two sides to keep the intensity alive.

The veteran also discussed Australia’s batting order ahead of the Ashes opener in Perth. Warner backed Marnus Labuschagne to reclaim his spot, citing his Test experience and consistency. “When you’ve played as much cricket as Marnus and average around 50, you’ve got to back that quality,” David Warner noted.
He also threw his support behind young opener Sam Konstas, urging selectors to persist with him despite his recent struggles in the Caribbean, where he averaged just 8.33.

“He’s got the temperament. We saw what he did against India A, scoring a hundred. It’s a short-term mindset if you keep chopping and changing. Give Sam a fair run; he’ll deliver,” Warner asserted.
Australia, who haven’t lost a home Ashes since 2010-11, remain firm favorites to retain the urn. With Warner’s confident predictions and the team’s depth in both pace and batting, the upcoming series promises another thrilling chapter in cricket’s oldest rivalry.
