A floating report suggesting the legalization of ball-tampering has roared up a big debate in the cricketing fraternity. This report suggests that the bowling team might be able to use artificial substances to polish the ball under umpires’ supervision. Australia star opener David Warner has shared his opinion on the same. The Aussie suggests he is against the practice of banning saliva saying it’s no less threatening than sharing a room.

Shining the ball is an integral part of Test cricket. It helps the bowlers to swing the ball both ways. It is a traditional practice for the bowlers to use saliva to shine the ball. However, the practice is unsafe now as the CoronaVirus spreads through the medium of spits and droplets. Therefore, the ICC’s medical committee has raised the issue of saliva being unsafe.

Speaking with cricket.com.au., Warner Said, “You’re sharing change rooms and you’re sharing everything else, I don’t see why you have to change that. It’s been going around for hundreds of years now, I can’t recall anyone that’s got sick by doing that. If you’re going to contract a bug, I don’t think it’d necessarily be just from that.”

However, Warner says it is ICC’s decision to take, He adds, “I’m not too sure but it’s not my place to comment on whether or not we should or shouldn’t (use saliva to shine the ball). It’s up to the ICC and the governing bodies to decide.”

Former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait says he isn’t a big fan of the practice but people will have to keep an open mind. Tait said, “I’ve never been a huge fan of the saliva on the ball, it’s not very nice really. We have to open to some possible changes there.”
