The suspended Australian opener, David Warner will soon be undergoing surgery on his injured elbow after returning from Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2018-19. On Monday, he left Bangladesh just days after his former Australia skipper Steve Smith ended his campaign with a similar injury for which he successfully underwent surgery last week.

Some of the reports in Sydney Morning Herald read, “The suspended Test opener will check in for an assessment in Melbourne on Tuesday before it’s anticipated he’ll receive a clean up of his problematic elbow on the same day.”

Even though Smith, whose one year ban period for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal is going to end on March 29, had a successful surgery it will be difficult for him to regain fitness ODI series against Pakistan which will be Australia’s final outing before the defending champions head to England and Wales for the ICC World Cup 2019.

However, Warner’s injury doesn’t seem to be that serious and he may as well return to play the remainder of the BBL for Sylhet Sixers. Smith’s rehabilitation process will begin in February. It’s unlikely that he will be fit for competitive cricket when his suspension expires. He is also expected to miss out playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) later this year.

A vital member for Australia to defend their World Cup crown, Smith may head into the quadrennial event without any game time under his belt.
