Exactly four years ago, India’s current Test vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, scored his maiden Test century against New Zealand at Wellington. Having lost the first Test by 40 runs at Auckland, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the then Indian captain had won the toss and chose to field.

After India had bundled out New Zealand for 192 in 52.5 overs, the onus was on the Indian batsmen to pile up runs in a bid to gain an advantage in the Test match. Rahane came in to bat at No. 7 when the score was 5-165 in the 46th over.

He shared a 120-run partnership with Dhoni for the seventh wicket as India marched towards a dominant position in the Test match. Rahane was the ninth Indian wicket to fall. He ended up scoring 118 (158) with the help of 17 fours & a six as India scored 438-10 in 102.4 overs, gaining a crucial 246-run lead.
