Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a close nine-run loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. Chasing a target of 198 runs, DC only managed to reach 188/6 in 20 overs, despite half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh (63) and Phil Salt (59). For SRH’s bowling department, Mayank Markande was in good form and took two wickets.

Initially, SRH reached a huge score of 197/6 in 20 overs, owing to some fiery batting from Abhishek Sharma (67) and Heinrich Klaasen (53*). Meanwhile, Marsh took four wickets for Delhi. Other than the high intensity of the chase, the match also had its fair share of drama, with fans getting into a brawl in the stadium.

A video reported to have been recorded during the DC vs SRH match, shows fans exchanging blows, and it has shocked everyone on social media. Brawls in sporting events are common event in football games, but it is new in cricket.

The brawl is also a sign of discontent with fans, with both teams underperforming in IPL 2023. Delhi is currently bottom of the ten-team IPL 2023 Points Table with four points in eight games, packed with a couple of wins and six defeats. Meanwhile, SRH is ninth in the standings with six points in eight fixtures, including three victories and five losses.

David Warner-led DC saw their two-match unbeaten streak end in Match 40 at the hands of SRH. Meanwhile, SRH bounced back from a three-match losing streak to defeat Delhi.

Both sides also met in Match 34, where Delhi clinched victory by seven runs. Chasing a target of 145 runs, SRH was restricted to 137/6 in 20 overs, with Mayank Agarwal (49) top-scoring. Meanwhile, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje scalped a couple of wickets each for DC. DC had posted 144/9 in 20 overs, courtesy of good batting from Manish Pandey (34), Axar Patel (34). For SRH, Washington Sundar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets each for SRH.
