Team India has had a poor campaign so far in the T20 World Cup 2021 so far. Having lost their first two games in the competition against Pakistan and New Zealand, their hope of qualification for the semi-final has looked tough. Amid this situation, fans became sad and many experts have criticized the Indian team’s performance as well. To make things worse, Indian captain Virat Kohli’s family has become a target and his nine-month-old daughter, Vamika, reportedly received rape threats as well.

However, soon after this, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has decided the investigate the matter and they have subsequently issued a notice to Delhi Police as well. The women’s body said that this is a matter of “serious concern,” and requires “immediate attention” too.

“DCW has issued a notice to police over a threat made on Twitter to rape Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s daughter. Our chairperson Swati Maliwal has called this ‘shameful,’ and called for immediate arrest of the accused,” DCW’s official Twitter page has posted on Tuesday (November 2) along with sharing an image of its letter addressed to the cyber-crime branch of the Delhi Police as well.

On the other hand, former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was disappointed after hearing the unfortunate incident and he urged the fans to not target someone’s family members. “I heard that threats are being given to Virat Kohli’s daughter. People need to understand it’s just a sport, we might be playing for different countries but we are a part of the same community. You have every right to criticise Kohli’s batting or his captaincy but nobody has the right to target a cricketer’s family,” said the veteran on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, India speedster Mohammed Shami has faced online abuse following India’s 10-wicket defeat to Pakistan. He failed to do well with the ball and it was the reason that a section of netizens dragged his religion and accused him as well. However, his teammates and others backed him.

“There’s a good reason why we are playing on the field and not some bunch of spineless people on social media that have no courage to actually speak to any individual in person. They hide behind their identities and go after people through social media, making fun of people and that has become a social entertainment in today’s world, which is so unfortunate and so sad to see,” Virat Kohli said at the press conference.
