The Indian fast bowler, Deepak Chahar, in a hilarious manner, has hinted that he will be opening the batting for India in the first of the three-match series against New Zealand on Wednesday, November 17 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The 29-year-old is no mug with the bat as he has already five half-centuries, combining first-class, List A, and T20 cricket since making his debut back in 2010.

If Deepak Chahar gets a chance to bat against the Black Caps in the opener, it won’t be above the No.8 slot. In his career, Chahar has already scored more than 16– runs with 166 fours and 74 sixes, giving an account of his class with the bat in hand. The Men in Blue would love a few runs from his willow if they lose a few early wickets. Chahar is also excited to play in front of his home crowd in Jaipur.

Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar uploaded a picture where Rohit Sharma can be seen giving him some useful tips on batting. He captioned the picture and wrote, “All set to open the innings at my home ground tonight.”

Back in July during India’s tour of Sri Lanka, Deepak Chahar showed his mettle with the bat in hand. While he has won a few ‘Player of the Match’ awards due to his bowling, on the tour of Lanka, he got one on the back of his batting. In the second ODI, he scored an unbeaten 82-ball 69, laced with seven fours and one six.

Riding on his knock, India chased down 276 with five balls left and won the match by three wickets. Talking about the game, Deepak Chahar said, “Only one thing that was going on in my mind: this is the kind of innings I’ve been dreaming of. No better way to win the match for the country. Rahul sir told me to play all the balls. I’ve played a few innings with India A and I think he has belief in me. He told me he thinks I’m good enough to be a No. 7. He has belief in me.”
