Deepak Chahar Makes A Comeback For The Zimbabwe Tour, Virat Kohli Rested Again

The Indian stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been rested as India has named their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. Shikhar Dhawan, who led the team during the recent series against West Indies, will be donning the captaincy hat again. All-rounders Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar have also been making a comeback in the ODI squad.

Under Dhawan’s captaincy, India completed a whitewash against the Windies. Virat Kohli missed the ODI and T20I squads for the tour of West Indies, as been restored again as he has been struggling to make an impact during the tour of England as he failed in the fifth Test, three T20Is, and a couple of ODIs he played.

There were calls by former players to include Virat Kohli for the series against Zimbabwe as they wanted him to regain form before the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Sharma had returned to captaincy for the ongoing 5-match T20I series against West Indies.

Deepak Chahar played his last ODI match against the West Indies in February this year. An injury forced him to miss IPL 2022 and the right-arm seamer was rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy. On the other hand, Sundar played his last ODI against the West Indies in February and currently, he has been enjoying a successful county cricket stint with Lancashire.

Rahul Tripathi has also received his maiden call-up to the ODI squad. Earlier this year, he was called up for the tour against Ireland last month. However, he didn’t get to play one game. The India squad for the series against Zimbabwe is as follows:
