Deepak Chahar Reveals He Will Not Regain Fitness Before England Series

The Indian seamer, Deepak Chahar has confirmed that he won’t be fit in time for the T20I series against England which will start next month. Chahar claimed that it would take him another four or five weeks to attain complete fitness as he is sustaining his hamstring injury. The 29-year-old sustained the injury during the series against West Indies in February this year. It would ultimately rule him out of the 2022 IPL.

Currently undergoing his rehabilitation process at the NCA, during a recent chat with PTI, Deepak Chahar expressed that his recovery is going pretty well and it will take another four or five weeks before he becomes match fit.

Describing the status of his fitness, Deepak Chahar said, “I am bowling four to five overs at one go as per my rehab program right now. My recovery is going pretty well and I think it will take another four to five weeks for me to get match fit.”

The Indian pacer went on to say he won’t be fit in time for the upcoming three-match T20I series against England, which will be commencing on July 7. Chahar said that once he is match fit, he will need to check his fitness levels by playing a few club-level matches.

Explaining the same, Deepak Chahar said, “It’s a step-by-step process as far as recovery is concerned. I don’t think I will be fit for England T20s. Once I am match fit, I will need to play some club-level games to check my fitness. I can’t say that but I will definitely try and get fit by then. Let’s see.”

When asked if he was targeting a return to a comeback in the Indian team for the upcoming tour of the West Indies, the 29-year-old said he is unable comment on it at the moment. However, he went on to state that he will definitely try to be region his fitness before the West Indies series and join the team.
