Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler, Deepak Chahar reveals the captaincy style of MS Dhoni, saying he only steps in when he thinks that someone is new and confused. CSK is set to lock horns with Mumbai Indians in a heavyweight Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 8.

Speaking to CSK’s official site, Deepak Chahar said Dhoni has the ability to gauge if the bowler is willing to take responsibility, and if that is the case, then he will let the bowler decide the field and what he wants to bowl. Dhoni will be looking to win his fifth IPL title as captain in 2023.

Explaining it further, Deepak Chahar said, “With Mahi Bhai, it is different. First, he will see if the bowler is willing to take the responsibility. If he is willing to take the responsibility, he will let you decide the field, and what you want to bowl. If he feels the bowler is confused then he will give the field, and when he gives the field, you will know what to bowl.”

He went on to say that Dhoni would tell him which end to bowl from but now lets him decide, insisting that he only steps in when he feels someone is new and confused. Chahar was roped in by CSK in 2018 and scalped 10 wickets in his debut season with the side.

Talking about Dhoni further, Deepak Chahar said, “In 2018, Mahi Bhai used to tell me to start from which end. Now he asks me from which end I want to bowl, as I know my bowling and I can be the better judge. He only steps in when he thinks that someone is new and is confused.”

After losing the opening match of IPL 2023 against defending champions Gujarat Titans, CSK made a strong comeback with a 12-run win over KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants. They will now face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on April 8.
