Deepak Chahar Reveals Their Was No panic In CSK Squad After Positive Cases

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) seamer, Deepak Chahar said that there was no panic among his teammates, and support staff when positive Covid-19 cases were reported in their camp before the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Deepak Chahar revealed that the team management asked the rest of the players and support staff to isolate as soon as the positive case was reported, adding that the entire team handled the situation well.

CSK’s bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji tested positive following which Michael Hussey also getting infected with the virus. Some of the reports suggested that MS Dhoni reportedly stayed back until all his teammates made their way out of the hotel, which was part of the bio-bubble in Delhi.

Describing the same during a chat with Sportstar, Deepak Chahar said, “Once some reports came positive, the team management told us to isolate. We had tests every day and reports came negative, so that was a big relief. But none of the players panicked and everyone handled it well.”

He further added, “No protocols were breached. But obviously, I don’t know what went wrong. It is really difficult to say, because all the players followed the bubble strictly. When you create a bubble from one city to another, it may be a difficult task. But I am not in a position to say, what exactly happened.”

Chahar was in top form in IPL 2021, as he scalped 8 wickets in 7 matches as CSK was standing at the 2nd place of the points table before the season was suspended. He said it was challenging to play cricket, considering the situation in India but the cricketers and the support staff got the motivation from the fact that players were being able to entertain the fans who had tuned into watch IPL on their television sets.

Elaborating the same, Deepak Chahar said, “It was challenging, but it was also important to have the IPL in these times. There was so much gloom, but at least we could entertain them for a few hours. We were playing for the public and that was the motivation.”
