As the Indian team gears up for the all-important fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the tension and anticipation around The Oval in London are reaching fever pitch. Set to begin on July 31, this series-deciding clash holds enormous significance for both sides. However, Team India finds itself battling injury concerns, and there was a surprise presence during their practice session—out-of-favour pacer Deepak Chahar was seen training alongside the squad.

Chahar, who has represented India in limited-overs formats but is yet to make his Test debut, was spotted at the ground not in official team kit, sparking curiosity. A video shared by journalist Sahil Malhotra on social media showed Chahar engaged in warm-up drills with the squad.

Though there’s been no official word from the BCCI regarding his inclusion, his presence has led to speculation that he might be on standby amid India’s mounting fitness issues. India has already been dealt a major blow with Rishabh Pant ruled out due to a toe fracture, and Jasprit Bumrah is also unlikely to feature in the finale.

To strengthen their batting depth, the selectors have roped in Narayan Jagadeesan, hinting at an effort to plug the growing gaps in the squad. The series has unfolded as a thrilling see-saw battle. England drew first blood with a five-wicket win, but India bounced back in style at Edgbaston to level the series.

England reclaimed the advantage with a win in the third Test, and a rain-marred draw in Manchester kept them ahead 2-1. As things stand, England needs just a draw at The Oval to seal the series. India, under Shubman Gill’s leadership, must win to avoid conceding the trophy.

England, led by Ollie Pope, has already named its XI, with Ben Stokes out due to a shoulder injury. They’ve made three other changes: Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse, and Liam Dawson make way for Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue, and Gus Atkinson. With so much at stake, all eyes now turn to how India responds—with or without last-minute reinforcements like Chahar.
