Deepak Chahar’s untimely injury during the recent clash between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings ignited a wave of criticism regarding his fitness. In the 49th game of the tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Chahar commenced his spell but had to leave the field after just two deliveries due to a limp, prompting Shardul Thakur to complete his over.
Amidst the criticism, Chahar’s sister, Malti, took to X to defend her brother, urging for empathy rather than insensitivity. “Stop being so insensitive guys! Nobody is enjoying these injuries! He is trying his best and he will comeback stronger!” Malti Chahar tweeted, highlighting the challenges athletes face and the need for support during such setbacks.

On the field, Chennai Super Kings started well, with Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad contributing 29 and 62 runs, respectively. However, the batting lineup faltered after the initial flourish, with Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja departing early, and the rest failing to capitalize on the momentum.

In response, Punjab Kings commenced their chase with Jonny Bairstow’s aggressive 46 off 30 balls setting the pace. Rilee Rossouw’s 43 runs further strengthened their position, while Shashank Singh and Sam Curran’s unbeaten contributions of 25 and 26 runs respectively sealed the victory for PBKS by seven wickets.
The bowling highlights included Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar’s pivotal roles, both claiming two wickets each, with support from Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh, who chipped in with one wicket each.
