Delhi Capitals, the team which was earlier known as Delhi Daredevils, appointed former India captain Sourav Ganguly as an advisor of the team ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 season. Chennai Super Kings, the team which won the last season, will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals will play their first game against three-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on March 24.

Ganguly, the former India captain, meanwhile expressed his excitement who is supposed to work with Ricky Ponting, the team’s head coach, Mohammad Kaif (assistant coach), James Hopes (bowling coach) and Pravin Amre (talent scout).
“I am very pleased to come on board with the Delhi Capitals,” said Sourav Ganguly. “Having known the Jindals and the JSW Group for years, I am now excited to be a part of their latest sports venture. I am really looking forward to working with the players and the support staff,” Ganguly further added on his appointment.
Ganguly started his IPL campaign with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008. He played there until 2012 and later joined Pune Warriors India as the Captain and mentor in 2012. However, Delhi hasn’t won the IPL title so far and finished at the bottom three-times for the last six editions of the tournament. The Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals will play their first home game against Chennai Super Kings on March 26 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Ganguly’s inclusion will surely boost the team.
“Sourav is one of the most astute minds in world cricket. A lot of what we see in Indian cricket today was born because of Sourav. His aggression, positivity and never say die attitude are traits we want the Delhi Capitals team to imbibe. It is truly an honour that Sourav has chosen Delhi as his IPL team,” said Parth Jindal, the chairman of Delhi Capitals.
“I have no doubt that our team will benefit immensely from his experience, guidance and advice. Sourav has been like family to me and I am deeply humbled to have him as an advisor,” Parth Jindal further added.
