BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the Indian cricket board will announce its next steps regarding the presidency within the next two days, following Roger Binny’s exit after turning 70 in July. As per the BCCI constitution, no office bearer can continue beyond the age of 70, making Binny’s departure inevitable. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) before the end of September, where the matter of presidential succession is expected to dominate discussions.

“Very soon, there will be a notice coming out regarding the next course of action. And also, the AGM is due before September 30. BCCI is going to follow its constitution, which is in place. According to the constitution, we have to conduct our AGM before the end of September every year. So this year also, there will be no deviation. We’ll have our AGM before September 30. And the notice regarding the exact date, time, and venue will be issued in a day or two,” Devajit Saikia told ANI.
Speculation over Binny’s successor has been rife since June, with vice-president Rajeev Shukla emerging as the frontrunner. At 66, Shukla is well within the age limit and is expected to take interim charge of the presidency until formal elections are conducted.

Sources suggest Shukla may even contest for a full-time role during the AGM, though the veteran cricket administrator has dismissed the chatter. “These are useless talks. When one spot is about to get vacant, the person next in line gets the interim charge before the election. It is a procedural thing,” Rajeev Shukla clarified.
Only @BCCI president’s post will have a new name. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, Joint secretary Rohan Desai and treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia are expected to continue. If Rajeev Shukla becomes president (still unclear) then a new VP too.#Cricket

Binny, who succeeded Sourav Ganguly as the 36th BCCI president in October 2022, leaves behind a notable legacy. His tenure oversaw India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 triumph and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win, reinforcing the team’s dominance in white-ball cricket.

He also spearheaded the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), a landmark initiative inspired by the success of the IPL, providing a dedicated platform for women’s cricket. As the AGM approaches, all eyes will be on who takes the reins of the world’s wealthiest cricket board, a position that carries significant influence over global cricket governance.
