The young Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricketer, Devdutt Padikkal has been enjoying a purple patch in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Apart from proving his worth with the bat, Padikkal has also established his importance in the field, saving runs and taking sensational catches has become a new normal for him.

One of that magnificent catch came in the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Abu Dhabi. Firstly, the southpaw amassed as many as 74 runs with the bat in just 45 balls. However, RCB had only managed to register a total of 164 runs in their quota of 20 overs and they needed early wickets against a star-studded Mumbai Indians batting line-up in order to stay in the game.

Mohammed Siraj got one in the form of Quinton De Kock after a relatively good start by the defending champions. Yuzvendra Chahal was the one who managed to scalp the wicket of Ishan Kishan followed by Siraj taking removing Saurabh Tiwary, owing to a brilliant diving catch by Devdutt Padikkal.

Saurabh Tiwary was targeting the mid-off region and looked to go over Padikkal; however, he mistimed it. The youngster put a full-length dive forward to catch the ball, only inches from the ground. Tiwary departed for five at the score of 72 in the 11th over, which put MI under some pressure.

Despite losing the last game, Mumbai Indians stuck to the same XI. On the other hand, the Royal Challengers made three changes, drafting Josh Philippe, Shivam Dube, and Dale Steyn for Aaron Finch, Navdeep Saini, and Moeen Ali. Padikkal’s 74 anchored the innings for RCB and seemed to amass a formidable score after being 131 for 2 at one stage. However, MI managed to pull things off beautifully. Jasprit Bumrah finished with figures of 4-1-14-3.
