Dewald Brevis, who is fondly remembered as Baby AB for his similarities with AB de Villiers, has taken the cricket world by storm with his performances in the ongoing edition of the U-19 World Cup. The 18-year-old has made a name for himself ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in which he has listed himself among other South African players.

Dewald Brevis, the South Africa U19 batting star on Thursday broke an 18-year-old record for the most runs scored in a single edition of the U19 World Cup. The young broke the record of Shikhar Dhawan for the most runs, overtaking the India opening batter’s tally of 505 runs.

Brevis smashed 7 sixes and 11 boundaries for his 130-ball 138 for South Africa U19 against Bangladesh U19 in their match for 7th-8th placing at the ongoing U19 World Cup. Brevis’s stroked-filled knock helped the junior Proteas successfully chase down a stiff target of 294 runs in Coolidge.

Shikhar Dhawan had hit 504 runs in the 2008 U19 World Cup which India won under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

Dewald Brevis was in scintillating form in the U19 World Cup in the West Indies as he began his campaign against India U19 with a stroke-filled 65. He then followed it up with a 104 against Uganda. He hit 96 against Ireland and 97 against England in the quarter-final.

Dewald Brevis is among the 590 players who have been shortlisted for the IPL 2022 auction. He will be up for grabs at a base price of INR 20 lakhs.

The South Africa batting star had said last month that he would love to play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for whom AB de Villiers played until the last season. The Mr 360 announced retirement from all formats of the game after the completion of IPL 2021 in the UAE.

In an interview during the World Cup, Dwalrd Brewis, “For me, one of the biggest dreams is to play for the Proteas. I’m such a big fan of IPL and I would love to play the IPL for RCB. I love RCB because Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers were there. I’m a big fan of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.”
