During the third ODI of India’s tour of South Africa in 2006 at Cape Town, Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored a fighting half-century to consolidate India’s innings. Having won the second ODI by 157 runs at Durban, Graeme Smith, the then South African captain, had wo the toss and chose to bat.
South Africa were reduced to 6/76 in the 20th over by the Indian bowlers. Just when Justin Kemp (100*) and Shaun Pollock (33) were building a partnership, Dhoni displayed his brilliance to run out Pollock in the 36th over. Kemp and Andrew Hall (56*) stitched a 138-run partnership as South Africa ended up scoring 274/7 in 50 overs.
With bowling figures of 10-4-42-3, Zaheer Khan was the pick of the Indian bowlers.
Within no time, India were reduced to 4/44. This is when Dhoni came out to bat and scored 55 (48) with the help of three fours and four sixes. India ended up losing the match by 106 runs. Watch the full video:
