Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has always been considered as one of best leaders India has ever produced and many a time he has done justice to his role even after giving away the captaincy.
MS has the smartest cricketing minds and he uses his knowledge and experience to help India win matches every now and then. Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar reckons that there is immense respect between Virat Kohli and Dhoni and being behind the wicket allows MSD to take some crucial calls.
During a recent chat with NDTV, Gavaskar said, “I think the wicketkeeper is always in the best position. He knows the pace of the wicket, how much turn is happening so he will be able to guide the captain (Kohli) who is standing a little away.”
He further added, “I think with Dhoni being a successful captain for India, gives Virat the confidence to let him have his way and speak to the bowlers or just make those small adjustments on the field. Virat realizes MS Dhoni is looking to win matches for India.”
Virat Kohli became full-time Indian skipper in January 2017 when Dhoni decided to hang his boots as captain. Currently, Virat is continuing the momentum of the team gained under the tenure of Dhoni. It is very evident as MSD makes field changes during the game without any interference from his captain, as it was seen during the match against Australia in the first ODI on Sunday as well.
