Uttar Pradesh’s rising star, Dhruv Jurel, is on cloud nine after receiving his maiden call-up to the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series against England. The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman expressed his joy and shared the emotional response from his family upon hearing the news.

In the recently announced 16-member squad, Jurel finds himself alongside stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, marking a significant milestone in his cricketing journey. His selection as one of the three designated wicketkeepers, alongside KL Rahul and KS Bharat, reflects the selectors’ confidence in his abilities.

Having showcased his talent in the domestic circuit and donned the India A jersey during the South Africa tour, Jurel’s impressive performances have paved the way for this coveted opportunity. He contributed a crucial knock of 69 runs in the second unofficial Test in South Africa, proving his mettle at the international level.

Dhruv Jurel shared the heartwarming moment when he learned about his Test selection. His friends conveyed the news, sparking immense happiness within him. Recounting the emotional scene at home, he revealed, “When I told my dad, he was ecstatic. He asked me for which Indian team I have been selected. I said ‘the one with Rohit (Sharma) bhaiya and Virat (Kohli) bhaiya.’ It was an emotional moment for the entire family.”

Representing the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, Jurel delivered noteworthy performances in the 2023 season, accumulating 152 runs with an impressive strike rate of 172.73. His consistency and ability to handle pressure situations have undoubtedly played a role in earning him this coveted Test cap.

 

Looking ahead, Dhruv Jurel is eager to soak in the experience of sharing the dressing room with cricketing legends and learning from the best, including the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and head coach Rahul Dravid.

“I’m not concerned about others. I just want to focus on my game and keep believing. I really don’t know what to say. I will share the dressing room with the heroes that I have watched on television. This will be an entirely different experience. I would try to learn as much as possible,” expressed Dhruv Jurel.
