Star India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has reflected on his cricketing journey, admitting that while personal milestones once mattered deeply to him, he now values the team’s success above individual glory. The 24-year-old, who continues to impress in the longer format, believes that maturity and exposure at the highest level have reshaped his mindset.

On the final day of the first unofficial Test between India A and Australia A, Jurel resumed his innings on 113 and added 27 more runs before being dismissed by pacer Fergus O’Neill for a well-crafted 140 off 197 deliveries.
His knock anchored India A’s innings, taking them to 450/5 before the game inevitably ended in a draw once Devdutt Padikkal also fell after a fluent effort. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jurel admitted his perspective has changed with time.

“Honestly, earlier, it mattered to me whether my score was 100 or 150. But now I understand that the team’s victory is more important. In first-class cricket, I have seven-eight (he has four) scores in the 90s which could have been hundreds,” Dhruv Jurel said.

He highlighted the Ranchi Test against England in February 2024 as a turning point in his approach. Playing just his second Test, Jurel scored 90 in the first innings and followed it up with an unbeaten 39 in the second, guiding India to a five-wicket win. “That Player of the Match performance reminded me that cricket is ultimately about winning for the team,” he added.

Jurel’s rise has been steady since he broke into the India A squad in December 2023, during the South Africa tour, where he scored a vital 69 in Benoni. His consistent form earned him a spot in India’s Test squad against England, marking the start of his international journey.
“Being around the Indian team definitely gives you confidence. I consider myself lucky and privileged to play for India and share the dressing room with such experienced players,” Dhruv Jurel said.
