Virat Kohli may have completed 19 seasons in the Indian Premier League, but the Royal Challengers Bengaluru superstar believes there is still room to evolve. After guiding RCB to a second consecutive IPL title on May 31, Kohli revealed that the rise of fearless young cricketers has pushed him to adapt his approach and become an even more aggressive batter.

The former RCB captain delivered another masterclass in the IPL 2026 final against the Gujarat Titans, smashing the fastest fifty of his IPL career. Kohli reached the landmark in just 25 deliveries before finishing unbeaten on 75 off 42 balls, helping Bengaluru chase down the target comfortably and seal a historic title defence.

It was the perfect ending to a sensational season for the batting icon. Kohli accumulated 675 runs, including one century and five half-centuries, while maintaining an impressive strike rate of 165.84. Many observers have even rated IPL 2026 among the finest seasons of his illustrious T20 career, thanks to the balance he struck between consistency and attacking intent.

Virat Kohli admitted that the modern game demands a more aggressive mindset and credited the younger generation for motivating him to improve. “Such is the demand of the sport today,” Kohli said. “You have these super young players pushing you all the time and asking you to change your game and up the ante. It’s an exciting situation because it gives you something to improve on and work towards.”

The 37-year-old explained that the change was more mental than technical.

“I had to change my mindset, not necessarily my game. The goal was to score those extra 20 or 30 runs, take on the best bowlers more often, and put pressure back on the opposition. I’m happy I could contribute towards the team’s success,” he added.

While Kohli did not mention any player by name, many fans linked his comments to teenage sensations Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, who lit up IPL 2026 with their fearless batting. Sooryavanshi, in particular, enjoyed a record-breaking campaign and even shared a brief conversation with Kohli after the final, symbolising the meeting of two generations of IPL stars.
