Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi has been handed a one-match suspension by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council following repeated breaches of the league’s Code of Conduct. Rathi, known for his fiery on-field presence and animated wicket celebrations, crossed the line yet again during LSG’s clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 19, resulting in disciplinary action from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Rathi’s latest offence came after he engaged in a heated altercation with SRH batter Abhishek Sharma. The spat, which followed his signature notebook celebration after dismissing Sharma, escalated to the point where on-field umpires and players had to intervene. It marked Rathi’s third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct this season.

According to the official IPL statement, “This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to Three Demerit Points he had accumulated earlier — One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 1, 2025, and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 4, 2025.”

With five demerit points now on his record, Rathi will miss LSG’s upcoming fixture against the Gujarat Titans on May 22 in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma has also faced consequences for his role in the altercation.

The SRH all-rounder was fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point — his first offence under Article 2.6 of the Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches, the Match Referee’s decision remains final and binding, as confirmed in the league’s official release.
