It was a huge shock for the cricketing fraternity when the Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper, Rohit Sharma came out for the toss in their final league clash of IPL 2020 on Tuesday. Just around a week ago, he was excluded from all of the Indian squads for the Australia tour because of the hamstring injury with the BCCI giving the impression that the injury was serious.

However, Rohit proved the cricket board wrong by returning to action on Tuesday. He went on to play the entire game without having any sorts of trouble and also stated that his hamstring is ‘absolutely fine,’ while speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony. Rohit missed four games after getting injured during the match against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

Rohit Sharma’s return garnered various types of reactions on social media. The surprised cricketing fraternity called for more clarity on the matter while a section of the fans also slammed BCCI for their decision to exclude from the squads for the upcoming tour. Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar has now joined the discussion too.

Calling Rohit the most accomplished batsman of Team India, the former chief selector, Dilip Vengsarkar also expressed his surprise over the batsman’s return to action, just a few days after being declared unfit for the Australia tour.

During a recent chat with Times of India, Vengasarkar said, “It’s intriguing that Rohit Sharma, the most accomplished batsman of Team India, who was only a few days ago declared unfit to tour Australia by the Indian team’s physio (Nitin Patel) and hence not selected for the trip, is playing and leading MI in the IPL.”

Vengsarkar further clarified that he was not at all impressed with the recent turn of events. The batting legend asked if the T20 league is more important to Rohit Sharma than national duty. He also urged the BCCI to take action on the matter.

Former selector elaborated, “Now, the question here is, is the IPL more important to him than playing for India? Is the club more important than playing for the nation for him? Will the BCCI take a call on this? Or is it that the BCCI physio faltered in diagnosing Rohit’s injury correctly.”
