Team India has some tough decisions to make ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup on home soil. With injuries to key players, the management has been playing the waiting game, in order to finalize the squad for the showpiece event. One of the biggest headaches for the team is the wicketkeeper-batter position. Rishabh Pant is out of action for an indefinite period, following his brutal car crash last year. This has left India with three options: KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson.

Kishan and Samson are currently with the team for the ongoing Ireland tour, while Rahul is still recovering from an injury at the National Cricket Academy. Asked to pick between these three players, a fan said that he wanted the veteran star Dinesh Karthik to keep the gloves for the team during the ODI World Cup. Responding to the fan’s comment, Karthik assured the fan that he’ll be present at the World Cup. “You’ll see me in the World Cup for sure is what I can say,” Dinesh Karthik replied on Twitter.

Dinesh Karthik’s statement has raised eyebrows, as he has not played an international game since the T20 World Cup last year. Meanwhile, his last ODI appearance came all the way back in 2019 during the World Cup in England. It is unclear whether Dinesh Karthik is serious about his statement, or if he was just trying to be optimistic.

However, his words have certainly put the selectors in a spot. Do they go with the tried and tested options of Rahul, Kishan, and Samson? Or do they take a gamble on Karthik, who has been in great form in recent months? The decision is a tough one, but one that the selectors will have to make sooner rather than later. The ODI World Cup is just around the corner, and India will need to have a settled team in place if they want to be successful.

Karthik has been in excellent form in recent months, scoring runs consistently in the IPL and the T20I series against South Africa and Ireland. He has shown that he is still a valuable asset to the team, and he could be a good option for the ODI World Cup.

However, Karthik is 37 years old, and he may not be the long-term solution for the wicketkeeper-batter position. The selectors may want to give Kishan or Samson a chance to stake their claim for the role. Ultimately, the decision of who to pick as India’s wicketkeeper-batter for the ODI World Cup is a tough one. There are no easy answers, and the selectors will have to weigh up all the factors before making a decision.
