Dinesh Karthik has lauded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for their role in nurturing the talent of Akash Deep, following the Bengal pacer’s sensational Test debut. Akash’s impressive performance in the ongoing fourth Test against England in Ranchi has justified his selection ahead of Mukesh Kumar to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the playing eleven.

Making the most of his opportunity, Akash Deep spearheaded India’s bowling attack by claiming three quick wickets after England chose to bat first. Despite England’s openers putting up a formidable partnership in previous matches, Akash’s incisive bowling dismissed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope early on, swiftly followed by the crucial wicket of Zak Crawley.

Dinesh Karthik, speaking on the developments, commended RCB for identifying and nurturing Akash Deep’s talent over the past few years. As a player himself for the Bengaluru-based franchise in the IPL, Karthik acknowledged the diligent efforts put in by RCB’s scouting system in honing the skills of the emerging pacer.

“Credit to the RCB scouting system, they found Akash Deep two-three years ago. They are working hard on him,” remarked Karthik during his commentary.

Akash Deep’s journey to the international stage was facilitated by RCB when they signed him as an injury replacement for Washington Sundar in the IPL 2021 season. Initially serving as a net bowler for the team, Akash impressed and was subsequently included in RCB’s squad for the IPL 2022, where he made his debut.
