The veteran Indian wicket-keeper batter, Dinesh Karthik has come in support of Washington Sundar to replace Axar Patel in India’s upcoming ODI against Australia. The Men in Blue are all set to lock horns with Australia in the final ODI of the three-match series at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. During a recent conversation with Crizbuzz, Karthik said Sundar should replace Axar since he enjoys bowling in the powerplay and could be advantageous for India since Chepauk is Sundar’s home ground.

As per the quotes in India Today, Dinesh Karthik said, “I’ll be looking at Washington Sundar because he has the potential to bowl to Travis Head. He’s got a good matchup and is somebody who enjoys bowling in the power play. It’s his home ground, and he would have played a lot here. So, Washington Sundar in for Axar Patel.”

The 37-year-old said India should be looking at the conditions in Chennai and play an extra spinner while insisting that India needs to plan their batting innings better. India got bundled out for 117 runs in Vizag and ended up losing the match by 10 wickets.

Elaborating the same, Dinesh Karthik said, “It’s not about looking at the personnel or changing anything in that team. It’s about understanding the conditions and seeing what Chennai brings. You might have that extra spinner, which you already have. I don’t think they are going to make any changes to the playing XI. But they certainly need to do things around how to plan the batting innings.”

He went on to say that it was an anomaly of a game and India should forget it and move on to the next one.

Advising the Indian team, Dinesh Karthik said, “Australia were head and shoulders above India. These kinds of games happen. It’s an anomaly, and you need to forget it. Very rarely do these happen. And to be fair, India have had a very dominating start to the year. They have been very consistent. This has been an anomaly of a game, put this aside and move on to the next game.”

With this win, Australia leveled the three-match ODI series 1-1, with the final game set to be played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on March 22.
