Dinesh Karthik feels young Indian pacer Basil Thampi has very ammunition to taste success in the T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka. This is his first international call-up after showing off his skills in the Indian Premier League 2017.

“He’s a very, very good talent. He’s sharp, he bowls quick and is somebody who can execute yorkers very consistently, and that’s probably one of his biggest strengths,” said Karthik. “He has a good slower ball as well. He has all the ammunition required to play the T20 format and I’m sure he will do really well.”

Thampi made his IPL debut for Gujarat Lions this year, where he bagged 11 wickets in 12 games before claiming the ‘Emerging Player’ in 2017. He is very lethal with his toe-crushing Yorkers and can reduce the pace at will.

Veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was very impressed with him during this IPL season as they both shared the same dressing room for Gujarat.

“I would say he will get the opportunity to play for Team India in a year or so. He has the talent, obviously, but he also has a lot of heart, pace and the skill. He’s always willing to learn,” said Bravo.

Kerala born cricketer has seen a tremendous success in a short span of time and within a year, he is bowling to heavyweights like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rohit Sharma etc. Earlier, he helped Kerala to go through the knockout stage of the Ranji Trophy with some sensational bowling display.

India and Sri Lanka will play the first T20I match tomorrow in Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium.
