Sri Lanka have suffered another injury setback at the ICC World Cup 2023, with fast bowler Lahiru Kumara ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a left thigh injury. Dushmantha Chameera, a reserve player, has been called up to replace Kumara in the squad. Kumara sustained the injury during training in Pune ahead of Sri Lanka’s crucial match against Afghanistan.
The Event Technical Committee approved Dushmantha Chameera as his replacement on Sunday. Kumara played a key role in Sri Lanka’s convincing 8-wicket victory over England in their previous match. He picked up three wickets for 35 runs in seven overs, and was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance.
Dushmantha Chameera has been officially approved as a replacement for Kumara in the Sri Lanka squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, as confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket.
