Veteran West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has confirmed his retirement from all forms of cricket after his CPL 2024 was cut short by injury. Bravo, who retired from IPL last year, is the all-time highest wicket-taker in T20 history as well.
“Twenty-one years as a professional cricketer – it’s been an incredible journey, filled with many highs and a few lows,” Bravo wrote in his Instagram post announcing retirement on Thursday (September 26). “Most importantly, I was able to live my dream because I gave you 100 (per cent) at every step. As much as I’d love to continue this relationship, it’s time to face reality.”
“My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain. I can’t put myself in a position where I might let down my teammates, my fans, or the teams I represent. So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell.”

The West Indies veteran had earlier retired from international cricket in 2021 and played in the T20 leagues besides also involving in coaching. Over the last 12 months, Bravo has worked with both his IPL team Chennai Super Kings and was also worked with Afghanistan team as their bowling consultant for the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA as well.
However, in his 18-year career in T20 cricket, Dwayne Bravo won championships with his CPL teams, in the IPL, the Pakistan Super League as well as the Big Bash League as well. Three of his five CPL titles are with Trinbago Knight Riders, leading them to consecutive title wins in 2017 and 2018 before leading St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to their maiden title in 2021 as well.

However, Bravo had already announced at the start of the ongoing CPL that it would be his last season in the CPL as well. While he had been retained by MI Emirates in UAE’s ILT20, a groin injury while fielding during a CPL 2024 game earlier this week put paid to those chances.
