The outbreak of the Covid-19 virus has brought the world to a standstill with many countries being completely lockdown. Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Events like the Tokyo Olympics and European Football Championships are the ones who have suffered because of the same. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate with many international and domestic matches being canceled. On Sunday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a USD 76 million aid package.
The ECB did the same as a response to the pandemic spread of the Corona Virus across the globe. All the 18 first-class counties and county boards are all set to receive a share of the 40 million pounds deposited in their bank accounts by the England and Wales Cricket Board. The ECB has also opened up an additional 20 million pounds available to the same in interest-free loans and grants.

ECB chief executive Tom Harrison was quoted saying, “It’s no exaggeration to say that this is the biggest challenge the ECB have faced in their history.”
“Won’t know the full impact for a few months. We are aware the effects will be long-standing and they will be very significant on us. the team is trying to work around the clock to understand that impact and take some short term steps to help counties and recreational clubs to get through the immediate impact.” he added

The cricketing calendar has suffered immensely because of the virus. Covid-19 Virus has affected more than 859,825 people so far. It is also responsible for killing over 42,341 lives globally.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is also examining over putting off the first inaugural season of THE HUNDRED. The tournament was scheduled to commence from July 17 but with all sporting events upheld until further notice in the United Kingdom. The Hundred’s fate seems to be under the clouds of uncertainty.
