Australia’s star all-rounder Ellyse Perry will have to stay away from the action for at least six months as she is all set to go through surgery on her injured hamstring next week. Perry injured her right hamstring while trying to save a run during Australia’s final group league match against New Zealand. Although she saved the run, she fell down badly on the ground and was subsequently ruled out from the rest of the matches in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup where the hosts and the defending champion Australia will take on India in the final on Sunday at the MCG.

“The timing has been good, I still get to come tomorrow and next week I’ll (have surgery),” Ellyse Perry said at the MCG on Saturday, reports cricket.com.au. “From my perspective, I’ve had the most incredible run, I’ve been very fortunate with injury for a long period of time.”

With this injury, the all-rounder will be out of Australia’s upcoming limited-overs tour of South Africa as well which will begin next Sunday, and also she would not take part in the upcoming Indian Premier League exhibition games in May in Jaipur. However, Ellyse Perry, 29, has remained with Meg Lanning and Co. and said that she would provide support or advice to her teammates in every way possible in the all-important final clash against India.

“I’ll be trying to keep my nerves at bay,” she said.

“I feel incredibly fortunate and chuffed that Motty and the group wanted to keep me around, it’s nice to be here and take it all in,” she further added.

This is for the very first time that Australian Women’s Cricket Team has been playing without her. Ellyse Perry who is considered as the most important part of the team has not missed a single game in the T20 World Cup since it’s beginning in the way back in 2009.
