After a suffering, a close 31-run loss to England in a nail-biting Test opener at Edgbaston, the Indian team all charged up to bounce back stronger. The tour is evenly poised with India sealing the T20I leg, while England won the ODIs and it all boils down to the ongoing 5-Test series.
With the second Test scheduled at Lord’s from 9th of August, the compositions of both the teams have become a topic of debate for the fans and the pundits. As temperatures hit the mid-thirties consistently in London, the challenge for the Lord’s groundstaff will be to make sure that there is enough moisture in the pitch to produce an even contest.
Thus, both England and India might opt to play with two spinners in the second Test as heat waves continue to sweep through the capital. Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh also echoed on the same lines saying as per quotes on ESPN Cricinfo, “India made a mistake even at Edgbaston going with one spinner. Though they bowled beautifully, all seamers, but Hardik Pandya didn’t bowl and didn’t bat as the team wanted him to. So why play him?”

Harbhajan Singh was critical of the decision by Virat Kohli and his men to play only one spinner at Edgbaston. Bhajji feels that the management should have been more cautious, especially in the dry conditions. He suggested Hardik Pandya didn’t pay off in the first Test, with the all-rounder putting in a pale performance
India’s most successful finger spinner with 417 Test wickets, Harbhajan then explained why he would choose Kuldeep over Pandya or Ravindra Jadeja at Lord’s. He said, “He will create chances. He bowls googlies, leg spin with the left hand. On the first day, suppose India were to lose the toss and they are still bowling (at the end of the day), this guy will create chances on a good track. Right-hander or left-hander, Kuldeep is the guy because he (can) spin the ball both ways.”
