The flamboyant Indian batsman KL Rahul is on the verge of becoming one of the batting mainstays of the Indian team since he has put in commendable performances for Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League 2018. Having scored a century in the opening T20I of ongoing India’s tour of England, Rahul has given the selection committee a sweet headache for his batting position.
Indian opener, Rohit Sharma attended the pre-match press conference and during the same, he clarified the batting-order dilemma. He said, “Speaking of Rahul batting at 3 or 4, I don’t know where he’ll bat in ODIs. Certainly, he has been in great form. We have got to see on Thursday where he actually bats. It will either be No 3 or 4. I don’t know where the captain wants to bat. That will be the most important question.”

Rohit also spoke about how the current tour will act as the preparations for the 2019 ICC World Cup which also going to take place in England and Wales. Sharma said, “It is very important since the World Cup is going to be played in this part of the world. In terms of preparation, it’s very important, in terms of our combinations and what our targets are going to be. We have seen England against Australia and they were really high scoring games, it’s going to be crucial to see where we are as a team.
While chasing has been a trend for the Indian team in recent times, the same was preferred by England in the T20Is. Rohit also admitted that chasing has, in fact, turned out a little easier these days then batting first.
Talking about the same, the Indian opener said, “This team (India) likes chasing down targets. Whatever we do we don’t go out and bat like we have to score 400 runs. We bat normally and see where you are at 30 overs and analyze it. We noticed the last series played here it was high scoring games and this is where they scored 481 runs. I’m expecting nothing else than a high-scoring series. It’s always nice to see the score in front of you and see how you can bat.”
