English star top-order batsman Joe Root return in the form as he scored a brilliant century against India in the second ODI of three-match ODI series at Lord’s (London) on Saturday. His innings helped England to put a big total of 322/7 on the board at the end of 50 overs.

England started this game from 0-1 behind and Eoin Morgan decided to bat first after winning the toss. England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow provided a good start as they put a 69-run opening partnership. Roy scored 40 off 42 balls with 4 fours and only six while Bairstow played a 38-run knock off 31 balls with 5 fours and only six.

Indian left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav, who was the hero in the last game with the impressive bowling figure of 10-0-25-6, once again delivered well with the ball in hands as he dismissed both the English openers.

At next, Joe Root controlled the innings and the skipper Eoin Morgan provided a crucial 103-run partnership for the third wicket. In that partnership, both batsmen completed their half-centuries as Root reached the mark in 56 balls with 4 fours while Morgan reached in 49 balls with 4 fours and only six.

Just after completing his half-century, Morgan was dismissed by Kuldeep on 53 off 51 balls. While Root continued his innings, Ben Stokes (5), Jos Buttler (4) and Moeen Ali (13) departed cheaply.

At next, Root carried his innings with David Willey till the end as they put 83-run partnership for the seventh wicket that secured a big total of 322/7 at the end of 50 overs.

Root completed his 12th ODI century in 109 balls and was run out on the last ball of the innings on 113 off 116 balls with 8 fours and only six. Meanwhile, Willey played a superb fast knock at the end as he was not out on 50 off 31 balls (5 fours and only six).

Apart from Kuldeep Yadav’s 10-0-68-3, pacer Umesh Yadav (1/63), Hardik Pandya (1/70) and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (1/43) got one wicket each.
