Eng vs Ind (Second Test): India suffered humiliating defeat after another batting disaster

Indian batsmen again surrendered in front of the English pacers and suffered a humiliating defeat in the second Test of five-match Test series at Lord’s. After declaring their innings on 396/7, England cricket team bundled out India for just 130 runs in their second innings. England won the second Test by an innings and 159 runs.

On Sunday, the fourth day of the Lord’s Test, England resumed on their overnight score 357/6. Playing around only half-an-hour, England batsmen Chris Woakes and Sam Curran added 39 runs on the board. While they had a 76-run partnership for the seventh wicket, Curran scored 40 off 49 balls (5 fours and only six) while Woakes remained unbeaten on 137 runs off 177 balls (21 fours).

After Curran was dismissed by Hardik Pandya, English captain Joe Root declared that innings on 396/7 as they had 289 runs lead over the visitors at the end of first innings fights. Among the Indian bowlers, Mohammed Shami (3/96) and Hardik Pandya (3/66) got three wickets while Ishant Sharma (1/101) took one wicket.

In reply, Indian batting again collapsed in front of dominating English bowlers. Apart from Ravichandran Ashwin again, none of the other Indian batsmen reached the 30-run mark in that innings. Ashwin remained unbeaten on 33 runs and it was the only 30+ score by an Indian batsman in the whole Test match. Hardik Pandya was only the other Indian batsman to score 20+ runs in the second innings as he scored 26 runs.

Apart from the 55-run partnership between Ashwin and Pandya for the seventh wicket, India had no 30 or more runs partnership in that innings. India was bundled out for 130 runs and suffered a humiliating defeat by an innings & 156 runs.

Again, the English pacer James Anderson provided his master performance with the ball. After performing 5/20 in the first innings, Anderson took four wickets in the second innings and finished that innings with the bowling figure of 12-5-23-4.

Another experienced pacer Stuart Broad also bowled impressively as he also claimed four wickets as his bowling figure was 16-6-44-4. Chris Woakes (2/24) got two other wickets in that 47-over long innings.

For his brilliant all-round performances, Woakes received the Player of the Match award. Meanwhile, with this second Test victory, the hosts England took a healthy 2-0 lead of the five-match Test series.
