As it says history repeats itself, once again England and New Zealand faced each other in the final of the five-match T20I series’ super over. Earlier in the innings, New Zealand posted 146 on the back of Martin Guptill’s 50 and Colin Munro’s 46. Although England lost three early wickets, Jonny Bairstow (47) and Sam Curran (24) brought them back into the game with a 61-run partnership off mere 24 balls.

However, they also ended up scoring the same and the super over took place. In the deciding final game which was reduced to 11 overs per side because of rain, a boundary by Chris Jordan off the last ball of the England innings tied the scores at 146. Jonny Bairstow (eight) and Eoin Morgan (nine) posted 17 for England in the super over. However, New Zealand fell short of nine runs while losing one wicket for eight runs.

The start of play was delayed two hours due to rain. England, who won the toss and elected to bowl first, levelled the series 2-2 when Dawid Malan smashed the fastest Twenty20 century by an Englishman to set up a 76-run victory.

However, Malan has been dropped for the crucial final game with James Vince returning to the line-up where England made two other changes with Saqib Mahmood and Adil Rashid returning in place of Pat Brown and Matt Parkinson. Jimmy Neesham and Scott Kuggeleijn replaced Daryl Mitchell and Blair Tickner for New Zealand.
