The 36-year-old English pacer James Anderson recently produced a deadly bowling performance against India in the second Test of five-match Test series at Lord’s. The English head coach Trevor Bayliss believes that the right-arm pacer has the ability to play the international cricket at least for more three or four years.

In the recently concluded Lord’s Test, Anderson bowled impressively in both innings and took a total of nine wickets (5/20 & 4/23) in the game. His bowling led the team to beat the no.1 Test side by an innings and 159 runs as well as to take the 2-0 lead in the series.

The present no.1 Test ranked bowler James Anderson has picked up 553 Test wickets in 261 Test innings (140 Test matches) and he is currently the fifth most Test wicket-taking bowler in history.

After making his Test debut in 2003, Anderson has served his nation for more than 15 years but the head coach believes that the right-arm pacer can play three or four more years.

Bayliss said about Anderson, “I don’t think there’s any age – he keeps surprising everyone. As long as he keeps his body fit there’s no reason why he can’t go on for three or four years. A lot of other bowlers do start to drop off mid-30s or so. It’s only the very, very best that are able to keep it going. I think he’s showing that he is the very, very best.”

If the condition suits him, Anderson becomes lethal with the ball. After a devastating Lord’s Test, Indian cricket team can expect to face another tough Anderson bowling in the third Test, starting from this Saturday (August 18) at Trent Bridge, which is one of Anderson’s most successful Test venues.

Bayliss added about Anderson, “He’s not just good when the conditions suit him, but in these conditions he’s the best in the world. It’s a test for any batsman in the world to try to face him in these conditions.”

While Indian batsmen are hugely struggling against the swing bowling in the ongoing Test series, Bayliss also recalled that the English batting has also struggled against spin in the sub-continent venues.

Bayliss said on that, “When the ball is swinging around they (India) have some difficulties, as when it’s spinning and we go to the sub-continent. They (India) have some extremely good players, so our job is to try and stay on top.”

After returning from the injury in that Lord’s Test, English all-rounder Chris Woakes scored a brilliant unbeaten century (137*) in the tough period and also took two wickets in each innings (2/19 & 2/24). His all-round performances resulted in a dominating victory for his team as well as a deserving Player of the Match award for him.

Talking about Woakes, Bayliss said, “He has done a lot of hard yards, not just with the ball but with the bat over the last few years too. He’s a lovely bloke, and one of those guys who everyone genuinely wants to do well, so to see him go out there and do so well when we thought we were in a bit of trouble, to go and play the way he did with Jonny, was fantastic.”
