On Tuesday, England had announced the squad for the third Test against India in which they have included the wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow and fast bowler, Mark Wood for the day/night Test against India, scheduled to be commencing on February 24 in Ahmedabad. England lost the second Test in Chennai on Tuesday by 317 runs as India has managed to level the four-match series.
The selectors also decided to send back to England spin all-rounder Moeen Ali, who played in the second Test, back to England as part of their rotation policy to manage the workload of the players. Bairstow was given a rest after the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, where he had scores of 47, 35 not out, 28, and 29.

Bairstow was also not included for the first two Tests against India Wood was also given a break after the series in Sri Lanka where he went wicket-less in the first Test and managed to scalp three wickets in the second.
In a statement regarding the selection, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said, “Moeen Ali will return to England for a break while Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood join the squad having been rested for the first two Tests.”

Currently, the four-match series is leveled at 1-1 with the hosts pulling off a huge win by 331 runs in the second Test on a challenging pitch. However, the English team had managed to win the four-match series opener by 227 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
