After a challenging second Test in Visakhapatnam resulting in a 106-run loss for England, the team has made a strategic decision to leave India temporarily and head to Abu Dhabi for a break before the crucial third Test in Rajkot. The nine-day gap provides the opportunity for the players to relax and engage in recreational activities, including golf, as they prepare to resume the intensely contested series.

Captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum view the break as a chance for players to rejuvenate before returning to India with a fresh mindset for the upcoming challenges. The move echoes the approach taken by Alastair Cook’s team in 2012, hoping to replicate their success of beating India in a Test series on Indian soil.

The England team had previously undergone an extensive conditioning camp in Abu Dhabi to prepare for the challenging conditions in India. The focus during the camp was on devising effective strategies to tackle the Indian spinners.

While England emerged victorious in the series opener, they faced challenges in the second Test, especially against Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional display of reverse swing bowling.

Despite the setback in Visakhapatnam, Stokes emphasized the team’s level-headed approach and resilience. Acknowledging the disappointment of not going 2-0 up in the series, he highlighted the team’s ability to stay focused, put challenges behind them, and concentrate on the upcoming matches.

“Being 2-0 up would have been great for us, but that’s the great thing about a five-match series, it’s the end of the series where everything counts,” said Ben Stokes. The team remains optimistic and upbeat, recognizing the positives from their performances, even in the face of not achieving the desired result in the second Test.

As the England cricket team takes a brief hiatus in Abu Dhabi, fans eagerly await their return to India for the decisive third Test in Rajkot on February 15. The series has already witnessed captivating moments, and both teams are gearing up for a thrilling conclusion in the quest for victory.
