Hosts England clinched another victory against the visitors India in the ongoing five-match Test series and this time they clinched a one-sided victory by an innings & 159 innings in the second Test at Lord’s.
In the rain-marred Test match, the day one fully washed out and the English skipper Joe Root decided to field first after winning the toss on the second day morning. Struggling India was bundled out for just 107 runs in their first innings that ended at the end of day 2.

In reply, England was also struggling once on 131/5, but then Chris Woakes and Jonny Bairstow helped the team to come out from the stressful situation. After scoring 396/7 in that innings, English skipper Joe Root declared as they were 289 runs ahead from India.
In their second innings, Indian top-order batting again faced a collapse as they were bowled out for just 130 runs and England secured a massive victory. With this victory, England took the 2-0 lead of the five-match Test series after the end of the second Test.

Some important stats of day 4 of the Lord’s Test between England and India
i) The no.7 English batsman Chris Woakes remained not out on 137 runs at the end England’s first innings.
- Highest knock in a Test innings by an English batsman at no.7 or lower against India. The previous record was 124 by Jack Russell (at no.7) at Lord’s in 1996.
ii) India scored a total of 237 runs (107 & 130) in this Test match and lost 20 wickets.
- India’s second-lowest Test match total against England where all their 20 wickets were fallen. The lowest one is just 140 (58 & 82) at Manchester in 1952.
- It was the fifth time in Lord’s Test history when Indian cricket team failed to score 200 or more runs at least in one innings. The last time it happened for Indian cricket team in a Lord’s Test was long back in 1967, where India was all-out for just 152 & 110 in their respective innings.
iii) At the end of this Test, the English pacer James Anderson had an impressive Test match bowling figure of 25.2-10-43-9.
- It was Anderson’s fourth-best Test match bowling figure in his Test career.
- It was also the fifth best Test match bowling figure by an English bowler against India in England.

iv) At the end of the match, English pacer James Anderson has taken 553 Test wickets.
- Fifth bowler to claim 550 or more Test wickets.
v) At the end of the match, English pacer James Anderson has taken 103 Test wickets at Lord’s.
- First bowler to claim 100 or more Test wickets at Lord’s.
vi) English leg-spinner Adil Rashid didn’t bowl a ball in this whole Test match. Moreover, he didn’t face a ball and also had no contribution in his dismissal column (0 catches).
- Since May 2005, it was the first time when an English spinner didn’t bowl a ball in a completed Test match.
- Also, since May 2005, it was the first time when an English cricketer achieved this special rare feat – didn’t bowl a ball, didn’t face a ball and didn’t have any caught or stumpings in a whole completed Test match. The last English cricketer was Gareth Batty who had achieved that special feat against Bangladesh at Lord’s in May 2005.
vii) England won this Test by an innings & 159 innings
- It was England’s second largest Test victory (by an innings) against India at Lord’s. The record is winning by an innings and 285 runs in 1974.
