English left-arm pacer Reece Topley has been ruled out from the remainder of the current cricket season after suffering from the stress fracture of the back. As a result, he will undergo a surgery in next week and that will force him to miss the professional cricket for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old left-arm pacer is the Hampshire cricketer. Making his international cricket debut in August 2015, Topley has played 10 ODIs and 6 T20Is where he has taken 16 and 5 wickets respectively.

For a long time, Topley is battling from the back injuries. In the last week, he was dropped by his team Hampshire from the Royal London Cup final against Kent where his team won by 61 runs.

However, recently, the young left-arm pacer was coming back to the rhythm as he performed very well during the recently concluded List A tri-series in England between England Lions, India A and West Indies A. While they lost in the final against India A, Topley finished as the second most wicket-taker for England Lions by taking a total of 8 wickets in that series.

During that tri-series, Topley produced his best ever List A performance and that was against West Indies A at Northampton where he had an impressive bowling figure of 4/16.

Don Topley, Topley’s father and former English county cricketer, said that his son was very happy with his last week’s performance. But now he is devastated with his hard luck.

According to dailyecho.co.uk, Don said, “Reece was very happy with the way he bowled last week, he had a good rhythm and was bowling quickly. He played on Monday for the Lions and was almost going to go up to Old Trafford for England’s T20. But he ended up having a scan on Tuesday morning and at 11 am it was confirmed that he has a recurrence of the same stress fracture.

“He’s devastated and fed up of playing in pain. The harsh reality is we have a surgeon’s appointment next Wednesday. It’s the fifth time he’s had a stress fracture and I’ve got nothing but total admiration for the way he’s conducted himself throughout.”
