Eoin Morgan, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain has now added to the list of getting fined in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After having faced three defeats and a win, KKR captain Eoin Morgan has now been penalised for the slow-over rate during the game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

However, Morgan became the third captain after CSK’s MS Dhoni and Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma have faced the same earlier. However, if it repeats again and again then Eoin Morgan might be banned from a match as well.

“Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 21,” IPL said in a statement.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Morgan was fined Rs 12 lakh,” it further added.

According to the IPL guidelines, the captain will be fined a whopping Rs of 12 lakh for the first time of slow over-rate. If it happens for the second time during the season, the fine for the captain will be doubled (Rs 24 lakh) whereas every other member of the playing eleven is fined 25 per cent of the match fee or Rs 6 lakh – whichever will be lesser as well.

However, for the third time in a season, if it happens, the captain has to pay a fee of Rs 30 lakh and also serve a one-match ban, whereas the rest of the members of the playing XI will be charged with a fine of Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of match fee – whichever is lesser.

As far as the Match 15 of the ongoing IPL is concerned, CSK first put up a massive total of 220/3 in their allotted 20 overs and then bowled KKR out for 202 as well, registering their third win in the cash-rich league.
