England white-ball skipper, Eoin Morgan, who led their resurgence in limited-overs cricket after the 2015 Cricket World Cup is likely to retire from international cricket in the near future. Morgan, who has been struggling for form and due to his fitness, is contemplating hanging his boots in the upcoming weeks. According to the latest reports of the Guardian, Morgan is considering retiring from international cricket, owing to his batting form and fitness issues.

Eoin Morgan has only managed to maintain a below-par batting average of 16.67 in T20Is in 2021 and 15 in the two games he has played this year. In ODIs against Netherland, he witnessed ducks in both the games. The 35-year-old didn’t feature in the third ODI due to a groin injury and it looks like it might be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Morgan, who started his career playing for Ireland and he played an important role in restructuring and transforming English white-ball cricket, which has now seeped into Test matches as well. Morgan’s deputy Jos Buttler will be expected to become England’s next white-ball captain, who led the defending champions in the final ODI against the Dutch if the Irishman does announce his retirement from international cricket in the near future.

Ahead of the ODI assignment against the Netherlands, Eoin Morgan had suggested that he could announce his retirement much earlier than anyone anticipated. Speaking to Sky Sports, Morgan had said, “If I don’t think I am good enough or I don’t feel I am contributing to the team, then I will finish.”
