Former England pace bowler Stuart Broad questioned Team India captain Shubman Gill’s issues with cramps during the recent three-ODI series that ended with England capturing a 2-1 win as well. However, Gill led India with the bat, scoring
two fifties in the three games and finishing with an excellent average of 94 at a strike rate of almost 100 for the series as well.
However, he suffered from cramps after 70 in both his fifties in the first and the third ODIs. While he was forced to retire hurt in the first match, he immediately got out to Adil Rashid on 77 in the final match as well.

Talking about Gill’s fitness issues, Broad said on the For the Love of Cricket YouTube channel, “Everytime he gets a 70, he’s cramping up. He lost his rhythm in both innings (1st and 3rd ODI). You don’t engage too much with him (Gill) when he is batting. Shreyas Iyer was the one who told me he got cramps in the first ODI. I was surprised because it’s in England and it’s not the 40-degree heat of Ahmedabad that he’s used to batting in. I don’t know what was going on. Maybe he has an underlying injury. But it probably slowed him down and got him out at a crucial time at Lord’s.”

Stuart Broad also applauded Shubman Gill’s ODI numbers, as well as his batting style and stroke play, after the England series. Gill boasts incredible ODI numbers with 3,379 runs at an average of over 60 and a strike rate of 100.95 in 67 matches as well.

“His ODI numbers are a joke. I remember when Gill’s record first came up on the screen at Birmingham and his average was almost 60. I had to double check almost before reading it out. And it’s not in 10 games either that he averages 60, which is insane,” Stuart Broad concluded.
