Faf Du Plessis available for selection, confirms Chennai CEO Kasi Viswanathan

Chennai Super Kings’ key player Faf Du Plessis is available for selection against Mumbai Indians. However, Du Plessis has recently sustained a groin injury and his selection was doubtful. But, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed to InsideSport that he is available for selection.

Faf Du Plessis had earlier missed the last three matches including the final for St Lucia Kings after the injury. And, the CSK CEO has said that the final call will be taken after an assessment of his injury ahead of the match. “All the players are available from CSK’s squad. Faf du Plessis has passed the fitness test and he is also prepared for selection in playing in XI,” Kasi Viswanathan told InsideSport.

He further added that the veteran batsman has already joined the team’s practice and looked comfortable but another experienced player Robin Uthappa had been kept on standby as well. However, young all-rounder, Sam Curran is not available as he has been serving his mandatory six-day quarantine period in Dubai.

“Faf has joined the team, he also practices after completing the mandatory quarantine and has started practising. The final call on his fitness will be taken ahead of the match tomorrow,” he shared.

Meanwhile, the second phase of the Indian Premier League 2021 is all set to begin today with the clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. While the first phase took place in India before it got suspended due to COVID-19, constant change in place creates trouble. And, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming said that the split in this season will pose an unforeseen challenge also.

He shared his thoughts while speaking to CSK TV, “It’s like a fresh start” for another tournament. “It’s a unique challenge to have a tournament split in half. So, we just want to start well again but also remembering the work that it took to get a bit of form and to get those wins. It’s all about the mindset, people coming together and almost treating it like a fresh start for another tournament.”
